If there’s two forms of television that you can set your watch to finding runaway success on Netflix, then history has shown that the crime drama and erotic thriller are right at the very top of the pile. Combine the two together and thrown them into a murder mystery – another one of the streamer’s favored methods of storytelling – then there’s only outcome waiting to greet Burning Body.
The Spanish-language show stars Money Heist breakout Úrsula Corberó, who also knows a thing or two about being part of massively popular Netflix originals, and the synopsis ticks all of the boxes required to see it inevitably end up as one of the platform’s most-watched titles the second it’s made available to subscribers around the world.
Opening in 2017, the story finds the charred remains of a man discovered inside a car, who turns out to be a police officer. Gaining nationwide attention, the case soon evolves into a headline-grabber that Netflix itself describes as “a network of toxic relationships, deceit, violence and sexual scandals involving Pedro and two of his fellow police officers.”
That’s certainly going to get the pulses racing, and now we know when to expect Burning Body to be beamed into homes the world over. The series has been confirmed for a September 8 debut, which means that by all accounts it’ll be one of the biggest hits roughly 24 hours later, as any episodic exclusive of its ilk tends to do from the second it premieres given the habits of users.
