NBC is going geek. The network will head to Comic-Con in San Diego and while it’s not unprecedented for the network to attend what is now as much an industry event as it is a fan event, the network’s rollout is notable. NBC will bring to Comic-Con several of their new fall series as well as fan favorites Community and Chuck for panel discussions.
The network has booked the Tin Fish restaurant, directly across from the San Diego Convention Center, for their Comic-Con HQ. The Tin Fish will then be transformed on July 21st to resemble the legendary 1960’s nightclub which is the setting for the fall series The Playboy Club starring Eddie Cibrian and Amber Heard. Fans will be able to get their picture taken with Bunnies and get their very own key to The Playboy Club.
Then, on Friday, July 22nd, Tin Fish will be transformed again, this time to resemble the fairy tale setting of the series Grimm, the cop procedural based on the legendary Grimm’s Fairy Tales. The cast of Grimm will also take part in a panel discussion at the Convention Center on Saturday that will include a screening of the pilot which doesn’t premiere until October.
Grimm stars David Giuntoli, Russell Hornsby and Bitsie Tulloch will be on hand along with producers Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt who are likely to field as many questions about their former series, Comic Con faves Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as they will about Grimm.
On Saturday, July 23rd, NBC’s headquarters at Tin Fish will be taken over by the new fall sitcoms Whitney, Up All Night and Free Agents while at the Convention, the cast of Community, Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Allison Brie, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown and Ken Jeong along with series creator Dan Harmon, will hold a panel discussion.
Also featured in a panel at Comic Con is the new drama series Awake starring Jason Isaacs which will offer fans a first look at the show’s pilot which doesn’t debut until mid-season in January. Star Jason Isaacs and the show’s producers will then take part in a panel discussion about the series which stars Isaacs as a man who lives two lives, when he sleeps in one life he’s awake in the other.
Finally, fans will get the chance to say goodbye to the comic action series Chuck, which wraps up its series run with a 13 episode final season beginning Friday, October 21st. Stars Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin, Sarah Lancaster and Adam Baldwin will all be on hand for a Comic-Con panel to answer fan questions about the final season.
So there you have it, NBC’s plans for the convention. What do you think? Are you excited about their plans for Comic-Con?
