Production on Stranger Things season 3 has been underway since Friday, April 20th, with co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer back in the driving seat for what’s sure to be another thrilling journey into the Upside Down.
If you’ll recall, our last trip to Hawkins largely revolved around the looming Shadow Monster and its peculiar connection to Will Byers. The Demo-Dogs didn’t work, so perhaps season 3 will signal the moment when the Upside Down’s greatest threat crosses over onto our plain?
Stay tuned for more on that one, but in the meantime, the first batch of set photos have made their way online today and they show Nancy, Hopper and Joyce – or Natalia Dyer, David Harbour and Winona Ryder – shooting a scene, the context of which is unknown. They’re hardly the most revealing shots, but given that we’re not likely to see anything official for a while, we’ll take what we can get.
As for what to expect from season 3 in terms of plot, well, whereas the previous two installments largely revolved around the gang’s time in and out of school, the upcoming run will buck tradition in that it’s expected to take place during the height of summer.
“Season 3 is set in the summer, so right out of the gate that’s a big difference,” said producer Shawn Levy. “The first two seasons were very much school-based. This is that time of year where it’s not about school, it’s about the swimming pool and campfires and parades and Fourth of July and fireworks, so there’s kind of a poppy fun to Season 3 that’s really enjoyable before things inevitably turn super dark.”
The quaint town of Hawkins, Indiana swings its doors open to old threats and new allies when Stranger Things season 3 airs sometime in 2019 (or maybe late 2018). Little is currently known about Netflix’s release schedule, but we’ll be keeping you posted as more information comes to light.
