TVLine brings word today that the Robinson family have zeroed in on its matriarch, now that House of Cards alum Molly Parker has become attached to the role of Maureen in Netflix’s 10-episode Lost in Space reboot.

News of Parker’s casting arrives only a week after we brought you confirmation that Black Sails star Toby Stephens had landed the part of brilliant astrophysicist and commander John Robinson in Netflix’s redo. Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) rounds out the preliminary cast as Judy, John and Maureen’s daughter and fellow spacefaring explorer. On the other side of the lens, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter) are the screenwriters attached, while Zack Estrin (Prison Break) has been elected showrunner by Netflix.

Using Irwin Allen’s adorned cult classic as a jumping off point, Netflix’s Lost in Space series is pitched as a new interpretation of the Robinsons and their ill-advised journey off the beaten track. Stranded light years from their intended destination without a paddle, Netflix’s nuclear family will “find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and their own personal demons.” It’s a reboot that is beginning to coalesce nicely ahead of its bow in 2018, and we await Netflix’s announcement of the actor (actress?) that will be portraying the villainous Dr. Zachary Smith – the scientist who sabotages the Robinsons galactic voyage in the first place – with bated breath.

Lost in Space will make a beeline for Netflix at some point in 2018. Parker, meanwhile, has lined up the starry upcoming drama series Goliath over at Amazon.
