Now that the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother has come to a controversial end, it’s time to set our sights on the spinoff, which will tell a similar story, but from the female perspective.
As I’m sure you all know, How I Met Your Dad is currently in production over at CBS, with indie darling Greta Gerwig in the lead role. The show will not only copy the original’s premise, but its storytelling structure as well, with each episode narrated in the past tense by an off-camera, older version of the main character. Bob Saget provided his voice for HIMYM, and according to Deadline, Meg Ryan will lend her voice to How I Met Your Dad.
Ryan is, of course, most famous for romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, so she should be a good fit to narrate a show like this. She’s had a recurring role on Showtime’s Web Therapy, but HIMYD will be her first outing as a prime-time series regular.
Deadline claims that the show is considered a series-order frontrunner for the upcoming fall season, and considering that it’s been garnering strong early buzz, we should be hearing more about it in the coming weeks.
