It’s the moment that fans have been waiting for ever since it was announced three months ago; John Simm’s Master is about to return to Doctor Who! In this week’s episode, titled “World Enough and Time,” the Doctor and his friends Bill and Nardole have a lot on their plate as they have to deal with two versions of the Master and some old-school Cybermen.
As you can see in the trailer above, the next outing for the show will be set on a space station that’s somehow defying the laws of gravity and flying away from a black hole. Following on from her apparent rehabilitation in the past few episodes, the Doctor will take Missy out on a test drive to see if she can actually do some good. Furthermore, there’s also a glimpse of the original incarnation of the Cybermen, returning to the show for the first time since 1966.
Best of all, though, is our first look at John Simm’s return. He’s revealed to have greying locks and a beard (mirroring the facial hair sported by the likes of Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley in the classic series). His first words – “Give us a kiss” – raise some questions as well. For one, who’s he talking to? The Doctor? Missy?
In addition to the trailer, we also have the first clip from the episode, which you can watch above. It sees Missy impersonate the titular hero as she steps out of the TARDIS. Hilariously, she refers to herself as “Doctor Who,” smashing down the fourth wall in one fell swoop.
Fans should savour these last couple of episodes, as they’ll be the final hurrah of the current iteration of Doctor Who, as both Peter Capadi and incumbent showrunner Steven Moffat will exit the series this Christmas. The next Doctor has already been chosen apparently, but the BBC isn’t quite ready to announce who they’ve selected just yet.
We expect that to change soon enough, but in the meantime, be sure to tune in for “World Enough and Time” when it airs this Saturday at 9PM.
