Marvel Confirms That Drew Goddard Will Write And Direct Netflix’s Daredevil Pilot

Just a week after it was announced that Netflix and Marvel would be assembling for a set of live-action series, news hit the web that Lost writer Drew Goddard would be penning Daredevil. At that time, neither Goddard or Marvel had any comment, but it was basically accepted as fact anyways. Today, we finally have confirmation from Marvel that not only will Goddard be writing the pilot, but he'll direct that episode and serve as showrunner and executive producer for the series.

Just a week after it was announced that Netflix and Marvel would be assembling for a set of live-action series, news hit the web that Lost writer Drew Goddard would be penning Daredevil. At that time, neither Goddard or Marvel had any comment, but it was basically accepted as fact anyways. Today, we finally have confirmation from Marvel that not only will Goddard be writing the pilot, but he’ll direct that episode and serve as showrunner and executive producer for the series.

The news was posted at Marvel.com earlier today. Check out the press release below.

Marvel.com brought you the first news of the historic team-up between Marvel Television and Netflix, and now we’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Lost,” “Cloverfield,” “Cabin in the Woods,” “World War Z”) will join Marvel’s “Daredevil”! Goddard will write and direct the “Daredevil” first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

It’s great to finally have Goddard’s involvement confirmed. He definitely has the talent, both as a writer and a director, to get this show headed in the right direction. The Cabin In The Woods was a remarkable directorial debut, and while that’s not necessarily the sort of tone that would be best for Daredevil, it shows the he has has the ability to be successful while at the helm of an ambitious project.

Of the shows that have been announced for this team-up, Daredevil is definitely the one that I think has the most potential. Other than being excited purely due to the fact that I’m a huge Daredevil fan, I think he’s a character that’s just about perfect for a TV show. Plenty of shows about lawyers have been a hit, so Matt Murdock’s got that working for him right off the bat. But more importantly, Daredevil is a complex character, much more so than most superheroes, so having an entire season to flesh him out instead of just two hours will be very beneficial. Of course, a lot of the show’s success depends on who they cast as the Man Without Fear, but I’m pretty optimistic about this one.

Daredevil is set to premiere on Netflix in 2015. Head on down to the comments section to share your thoughts on the show and on Goddard’s involvement.
