Between the breathless nature of Marvel’s output, coupled with the sheer number of superhero projects incubating in various stages of development, it seems that we’re never too far away from another property stepping before the cameras. One door opening just as another closes, if you will – or in the case of Mike Colter’s Power Man, one door being ripped from its hinges and used as a makeshift weapon.
Marvel’s Hero for Hire will be back, back, back in a few months’ time thanks to the arrival of The Defenders, Netflix’s team-up series that will have him reluctantly join forces with Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones to safeguard NYC from The Hand and Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious Alexandra.
It lays the foundations for a truly epic dust-up between The Defenders and their common enemy, but the Battle for New York will surely spill over into Marvel and Netflix’s standalone series, too, what with Jessica Jones season 2 already filming in the Big Apple. Krysten Ritter’s whip-smart private eye isn’t the only Defender ready to circle back to her own solo series though, with reports claiming that Luke Cage is also gearing up for its second season.
Confirming those tidbits to be true today is Power Man himself, Mike Colter, who spoke at Houston’s recent Comicpalooza event (via MCU Exchange). Not only did the actor hint at a possible June start date for Luke Cage‘s sophomore run, but it seems Marvel and Netflix have quietly earmarked an early 2018 premiere window.
Here’s what Colter had to share:
I’m about to start next month. When the Defenders comes out on August 18, that’ll be something we can hold onto for a little while and we can enjoy that. And hopefully, we’ll get to see Luke Cage out early next year.
Luke Cage will next be seen rubbing shoulders with Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones when all eight episodes of The Defenders arrive on August 18th. As for Power Man’s next solo outing, stay tuned for more over the coming weeks.
