The Disney Plus showcase at the D23 Expo last weekend brought us a ton of exciting announcements about the upcoming streaming service and what it’ll be offering us, but one of the biggest reactions from the panel came when Ewan McGregor took the stage to officially confirm that he’ll be returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
It’s no secret that both fans and McGregor himself have been waiting for this moment for over a decade now, and with Disney and Lucasfilm scrapping the Anthology movie concept after the disappointing performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, a limited series on the streaming platform seems like the best place for the character to make his next appearance.
Though Kathleen Kennedy was on stage with McGregor at D23, she didn’t give away much in the way of what we can expect from the series, but The Star Wars Show has now confirmed exactly when it’ll take place. According to them, it’ll be set eight yeas after Revenge of the Sith and as such, pretty close to the timeframe of the aforementioned Solo.
With that in mind, it seems likely that we may get cameos from Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian, Ray Park’s Darth Maul or perhaps even Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. Even if not, though, it’ll be interesting to learn what Kenobi gets up to during the early years of the Empire and we bet that least a few familiar faces will be appearing throughout the show.
In any case, with production expected to get underway in 2020, more specifics on the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series should start coming to light soon. But so far, at least, it’s definitely shaping up to be something that’ll please the fans and we can’t wait to see what Lucasfilm has planned for us.
