It’s only a matter of time, isn’t it?
We live in an age where Hollywood studios tend to be a little trigger-happy when it comes to the ol’ reboot, and in the TV realm alone, there are countless examples of networks blowing the dust off established properties in the hope of tapping into a built-in audience (see: The Exorcist, Bates Motel, Hannibal, Fargo). It’s a process that often yields varying degrees of success, but when it comes to Lost, ABC’s cult classic that stretched for six mind-bending seasons between 2004 and 2010, co-creator Damon Lindelof believes a revival isn’t off the table.
Per TV Line, the former showrunner touched base on the dormant series, and why he’s “curious” and “excited” to see what the future holds – regardless of whether he’s actively involved in the proposed reboot or not.
I’ve thought about it a lot. [I] hope that when that happens, whoever is doing it, doesn’t take the characters from the original Lost and put them in the new one. Because we worked so hard to end that show and to give [the survivors] some level of closure. I know there was some debate as to whether or not there was enough closure…
There is one caveat, though; Damon Lindelof wants to ensure that the next incarnation of Lost respects what has come before, and doesn’t undermine the ending that both he and J.J. Abrams delivered seven years ago.
It would be really exciting if there’s another incarnation of Lost, I just won’t have any association with it. Not because I’m too good for it. I just feel like, again, we worked so hard to end our story, that to come back and say, ‘Well, that wasn’t the real ending,’ would be frustrating.
Lost is still on Damon Lindelof’s radar – for now, at least. But will the Powers That Be take heed of his continued interest in the property? Or do you believe the time for mystical islands has long since passed? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments.
