The second season of HBO’s standout smash, True Detective, has added another two names to its growing cast roster. Joining Nic Pizzolatto’s gritty cop drama are The L Word‘s Lolita Davidovitch and Intruders baddie James Frain.

The much-awaited sophomore season of the show will shed its original story, instead focusing on an entirely new set of characters. From what we understand, this new string of episodes will take place in Los Angeles with three cops who “must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

With Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s infamous duo relegated to the series’ history, this season’s storyline is slated to involve three new officers played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and a still-unconfirmed Rachel McAdams. Their investigation will see the trio tangled up in the activities of Vince Vaughn’s career criminal.

Newcomers Davidovich and Frain will be on hand to provide much-needed grit in a pair of supporting roles. Per Deadline, the former will “play Kitsch’s mother Nancy Simpson, a girly girl, a former showgirl continually sucking on cigarettes and margaritas as she mourns the loss of male sexual attention. What little of her hopes remain she has transferred onto her adult son, who, in her eyes, is God’s gift to women.” Gemma Teller mark deux, anyone? Meanwhile Frain will be staying on the right side of the law, as “Jeff Hunt, a ruthless police lieutenant.”

Davidovich and Frain will join the rest of the supporting cast, which so far includes Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes), Abigail Spencer (This Is Where I Leave You), Leven Ramblin (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Michael Irby (Almost Human).

With the exception of the brief logline and the above casting tidbits, all we know so far is that Pizzolato will return to script the series and Justin Lin is taking a seat in the director’s chair for the first two episodes. We’ll keep you posted as more confirmations are revealed for True Detective season two.
