Brenton Thwaites is a long, long way from the troubled waters of Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The Aussie actor has been tapped to headline Titans, Warner’s live-action TV series that’s poised to jump-start the DC Universe later this year – not unlike how Venom is expected to launch Sony’s own Marvel universe come October.
He’ll play the role of Dick Grayson (AKA Robin), and with Warner Bros. pumping out fresh intel for other DCU projects like Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol, we now have our first official look at Thwaites in costume. And he’s looking a little worse for wear.
Frankly, it’s an exceptionally detailed rendition of Batman’s closest ally (sorry, Alfred), and the scarred, battle-worn suit gels with Titans and its “gritty” tone. Feast thy eyes:
Starfire and Beast Boy have also been confirmed for the live-action series, and though Warner Bros. is yet to nail down an official release date, there have been rumblings that the DCU will officially go live in August. And when it does, it’ll boast a curated library of DC content, including true TV classics in the vein of Batman: The Animated Series.
For Titans, Warner will be hoping to introduce “young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging. This gritty take on the classic Titans franchise finds Dick Grayson and a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness named Rachel Roth as they get embroiled in a conspiracy. They’re joined by Starfire and Beast Boy to become a surrogate family and team.”
Titans will launch Warner’s DC Universe this fall. And after that? A slew of TV content – old and new – including original series based on Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol.
