Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard is already locked in to make his big return, but what about his former colleagues?
We know that the legendary actor is headlining Star Trek: Picard, a brand new series from CBS and franchise architect Alex Kurtzman, which will aim to follow Picard’s next steps now that The Next Generation has come and gone. And while that’s certainly an intriguing prospect, what fans really want to know is whether or not any of his TNG co-stars will join him for the ride.
Indeed, for months now, folks have been holding out hope that Picard may find Stewart back alongside some of his Trek family, which included LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Data) and Michael Dorn (Worf). And while CBS has yet to confirm anything on that front just yet, Burton believes that both himself and the rest of the gang will all be showing up at some point.
Speaking to CNN recently, the actor was asked about returning for Star Trek: Picard along with some of his TNG co-stars and said the following:
“Each of us, I would say certainly, right?” said Burton. “It is unreasonable to assume that he doesn’t know those people anymore, or that he stopped talking to them. And if he did there’s good storytelling in why.”
“Are you gonna see all of us together, again, in a scene or episode, though? I don’t know. There’s a lot of paper that needs to be papered, before we get there.”
So, it sounds like most of Picard’s old crew will be popping up throughout the series, but as Burton says, it’s unlikely we’ll get a full blown reunion with everyone together in one scene or episode. And that’s perfectly fine. After all, as the actor mentions, that sort of thing would be difficult to co-ordinate, for a variety of reasons.
In any case, it’s great to hear that we’ll likely be seeing most, if not all, of The Next Generation cast appear on Star Trek: Picard at some point during its run and with any luck, we may just learn more about what CBS has planned during the Trek panel next week at Comic-Con, on July 20th.
