The season 3 finale of Legends of Tomorrow saw two major characters say goodbye to their friends. One, though, was much more permanent a farewell than the other.
While Amaya Jiwe AKA Vixen left the Waverider of her own accord in order to finally return to her own time, Rip Hunter sacrificed himself to save the Legends and stop the evil Mallus. But, seeing as this is a time travel show, what are the chances that either of these characters could return for season 4?
Entertainment Weekly got the chance to ask Legends showrunner Marc Guggenheim this very question. First up, he wasted no time in confirming that, yes, we have not seen the last of Maisie Richardson-Sellers in the Arrowverse. That’s not exactly news, however, as the actress has been confirmed as a regular player next season, but it’s good to hear all the same.
“Yes, Maisie will absolutely be back. We just felt like we owed it to the character to complete this arc, complete this story loop that we got her in. Once we took her off of her path in 1942, it was always incumbent upon us to return her to that path. That was something that hung over us as writers, and hung over the character… I’m looking forward to a different storyline for Amaya next year. We’ll reveal our plans for Maisie’s character at Comic-Con this year.”
The future of Arthur Darvill’s Time Bureau agent, on the other hand, is a bit more hazy. Guggenheim couldn’t confirm that they have plans for the character, but he seemed positive that the actor would be willing to return if there was a good enough storyline.
“We love Arthur, we love having Arthur on the show, and I think Arthur enjoys being on the show. Because it’s a time travel show, and because we never saw a body, anything is possible. I think Arthur is totally willing to come back and play with us if we have a cool idea.”
We have to say, Guggenheim’s responses make sense. There’s plenty more potential for Amaya on the series as she still feels like a valuable part of the team. Rip, meanwhile, has seemed a little superfluous to the proceedings since defeating his nemesis Vandal Savage at the end of season 1. That said, we’re sure fans would welcome another guest spot for the character at some point, just as the showrunner suggests.
While Legends of Tomorrow is now finished for the summer, you can still catch Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl every week on The CW.
