USA Network is remembering the artistic legacy of late actor Richard Belzer with a special Law & Order: SVU marathon highlighting his best episodes.
Per Deadline, the television event is nicknamed the ‘Munch-a-thon’ and will feature the top 10 episodes of SVU from Belzer’s 23-year run in the role of police detective John Munch.
The celebration begins on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 4 pm ET/PT and will continue until 1 am. It will feature the SVU episodes “Remorse,” “Legacy,” “Manhunt,” “Parts,” “Uncle,” “Unorthodox,” “True Believers,” “Wonderland Story,” “Spring Awakening,” and “Fashion Crimes.” Each episode will feature a card paying tribute to the Law & Order alum.
The beloved actor played Detective Munch for three decades, starting in the tv series Homicide: Life on the Street in 1992 and remaining on the show until 1998. The character crossed over to Law & Order: SVU, where he remained for twenty seasons.
The late actor received praise from NBC and his colleagues in statements published on social media. Many remembered Belzer for his talent, humor, professionalism, and joy.
Belzer, 78, died peacefully at his home in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France, on Feb. 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife and their two daughters. According to People, his family released a statement thanking fans for their kindness and support:
“It has been truly helpful for us, his family, in traversing through this challenging time. So thank you. We have had a delay in making a statement in regards to his passing because, although he did have several health issues that had been difficult but not terminal, he experienced quite a sudden decline in health that caught us completely off guard, which lead to his passing.”
A memorial service for his family will take place today in Colomars, France.
