Following some character teasers for Mr. Wednesday, Shadow Moon and Mad Sweeney, the latest main player from Startz’s small-screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods to get the spotlight is Shadow’s “dead wife,” Laura, who’ll be played by Aussie Sucker Punch actress, Emily Browning.
As the promo above makes abundantly clear, young Laura Moon is no longer in the land of the living, and will actually spend the majority of the series as a zombie… for want of a better term to describe her bizarre situation. In the novel, Shadow is released from prison a couple of days early when he gets the devastating news that his beloved wife has been killed in a car crash. However, his grief turns to anger once he finds out the sordid details of her death. Without delving too much into spoiler territory, let’s just say that she went out with a bang.
Laura only appears to Shadow sporadically throughout the book at several key moments, but it looks like they’ve beefed up her role for the show – which is no bad thing. Indeed, Starz and showrunner Bryan Fuller are actually introducing several brand new characters in the series, with a view to expanding the mythology beyond the limited source material. As such, we can probably expect there to be more than just one season.
American Gods is set to premiere on Starz on Sunday, April 30th at 9:00 PM. Will you be tuning in? Leave a comment in the usual place and let us know.
