As was to be expected, some news pertaining to “Crisis on Infinite Earths” has come out of San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to learning that Brandon Routh will suit up as Kingdom Come Superman for the crossover event, we received confirmation on Jon Cryer continuing his awesome portrayal of Lex Luthor come this fall.
Being familiar with the comic book story arc on which the prime time special is based, I’ve been waiting to report on the Anti-Monitor being the villain of the piece. And as it turns out, today is the day I can say that, yes, he’s coming to wreak havoc on the Arrowverse.
Thanks to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, it’s been revealed that LaMonica Garrett will pull double duty by playing the Monitor we’ve come to know and the formidable Anti-Monitor himself. In fact, the concept art shown below offers a good idea of what he’ll look like. Be sure to notice an average sized human at his feet, thus hinting at how truly gargantuan he is.
For those unfamiliar, the Anti-Monitor is a being from another plane of existence that is actually capable of destroying universes. And when you consider how the prevailing thought is that the Arrowverse will go from being an expansive multiverse to one coherent universe following “Crisis,” it appears as though the live action iteration will live up to his comic book counterpart. Heck, this guy is so powerful that he even killed Darkseid at one point.
If you’re in need of a primer, then look no further than Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s seminal Crisis on Infinite Earths comic from the 1980’s. Or, if you’d like to see him go toe-to-toe with Darkseid as I just mentioned, then pick up Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s Justice League: Darkseid War. But if you’re an animation junkie, you may want to look into Green Lantern: The Animated Series, in which he featured as the big bad for the second half of episodes.
