To say that this is a grim day for Tremors fans is an understatement. If you’ve kept up with news regarding the cult favorite franchise, then you’ve probably heard by now that Kevin Bacon was set to reprise his role from the original film in a new TV series. Yes, a sixth movie may be due out on Blu-ray next week, but we imagine a fair amount of you appreciate all the new content you can get.
Well, unfortunately, the films will be all you’ll have to go on for the time being, for those pesky Graboids will no longer be making their way to the small screen. Here’s what Kevin Bacon himself had to say in an Instagram post concerning the punch to the gut:
“Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality. Although we made a fantastic pilot (IMHO) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for GRABOIDS!”
That’s right, a pilot episode had already been shot, so perhaps if fans are to make their voices heard, maybe it’ll one day see release through iTunes or be posted on some such platform as YouTube. The whole situation is heartbreaking, sure, but sometimes it’s possible to make off with a consolation prize.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the show was going to “pick up 25 years after the killer Graboid worms nearly destroyed the Nevada town of Perfection. Bacon was to reprise the role of Valentine McKee, who beat the sandworms once and would attempt to do it again; but first he’d have to deal with age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.”
Still, a silver lining remains, and that happens to be a seventh possible Tremors movie being on the way. Right now, it’s in the earliest of planning stages, but it was being conceived as something independent from the ill-fated TV show, so that seeing the light of day seems much more likely.
