Will Keira Knightley Join Vince Vaughn And Colin Farrell For True Detective Season 2?

In recent months, talk surrounding season two of HBO's True Detective has focused on the possibility of two female leads taking centre stage. The likelihood of that iteration has died down, following two official confirmations from the network; Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will co-star. As the second season steers into familiar territory though, there's still a wealth of roles so far uncast.

In recent months, talk surrounding season two of HBO’s True Detective has focused on the possibility of two female leads taking centre stage. The likelihood of that iteration has died down, following two official confirmations from the network; Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will co-star. As the second season steers into familiar territory though, there’s still a wealth of roles so far uncast.

In the running for what’s deemed a major female part are… well, most of Hollywood. According to Deadline, last Thursday eight big name actresses sat down to read for creator Nic Pizzolato in New York. A fresh name that was thrown into the mix is none other than Keira Knightley, who is a newbie to the True Detective rumour mill. Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, Brit Marling and Rachel McAdams have all been linked to the part in the past. McAdams name has sprung up most frequently, but now a scheduling conflict may stand in the way of her nabbing the part.

Knightley would make an exceptional additional to the cast. Notorious for donning period garb and polishing off her finest highborn accent, she’s proven more than once that’s she’s tougher than her English rose image.

Pizzolato’s insanely hyped first season won acclaim and much fan love for its tale of two detectives hunting down a Louisiana serial killer. The two actors who excelled in those leads, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, will not be returning for the sophomore season. Instead, the show intends to take an anthology approach – akin to American Horror Story. Each new season will shoot off into a new direction, with a different story and cast.

True Detective season two goes into production next month. We’ll keep you posted once we hear anything official on the casting front.
