Justin Bieber is set to grace the streets of Springfield, in what will surely be another step backwards for the increasingly stale series The Simpsons. The Canadian pop singer will lend his vocal talents to the upcoming 24th season, which begins airing in September.
Bieber revealed his appearance on the Fox show by tweeting:
“Just did a voice over for the SIMPSONS!!! #swaggy.”
The tweet has since been deleted, but exec producer for the show Al Jean was happy to confirm the news (via Ace Showbiz):
“It’s a cameo, but all of his fans should watch every minute of the show, before and after he’s on. He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won’t admit him.”
The episode in question will air next year and is entitled The Fabulous Faker Boy. I’m sure Bieber’s army of fans (or Beliebers, as I’m told they’re called) will be delighted with this news, though I’m less than enthused. Then again, I haven’t been particularly enamoured with The Simpsons for the past 11 seasons, so it doesn’t make much difference to me.
Bieber follows hundreds of guest stars over the years, in a show that holds the world record for “Most Guest Stars Featured in a Television Series”. Season 24 alone will also feature Edward Norton, Steve Carell, Zooey Deschanel, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman.
