Hot on the heels of the fantastic news that FX has renewed Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story for a ninth and tenth season, we’re now learning that Jessica Lange will be returning for the new run, which is titled Apocalypse.
From what we understand, the actress will be reprising the role of her Murder House character Constance Langdon, though details beyond that remain scarce. However, star Sarah Paulson was on hand at the Television Critics Association press tour today to reveal that Lange will make her return in episode 6, which Paulson just so happens to be directing.
Furthermore, the TCA panel revealed that Apocalypse will be all about “the end of the world,” which we kind of figured, with Paulson saying, “it’s the apocalypse in the truest sense of the word.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t spill anything else, but make no mistake about it, Murphy has big things planned for the next outing of his hit series.
Teasing the madness still to come a few weeks ago, here’s what the showrunner had to say about the upcoming installment of American Horror Story:
It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode five. You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat. It’s a very high concept.
Casting-wise, Paulson and Lange will be flanked by a slew of familiar faces, including Billy Eichner, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Joan Collins, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and Adina Porter. As the show’s eighth season is tinged by witchcraft, both Emma Roberts and Taissa Farmiga are expected to return, too, with Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Kyle Allen assuming guest roles.
American Horror Story breaks new ground for the cult anthology series on September 12th, and as soon as we’ve got more details on how Lange will factor into things, we’ll be sure to let you know.
