While some fans aren’t happy with Gotham‘s decision to explore the origin story of The Joker, Cameron Monaghan certainly made an impact when he appeared during the first season of the Fox series, and he’s taken on a leading role this year as part of the “Maniax.” Today, the first clip from next week’s instalment of the Batman prequel has been released, and, well, he’s certainly a lot like Heath Ledger’s Joker.
Here’s the official synopsis for Gotham‘s third episode, shedding more light on what exactly we should expect:
Gordon and Bullock track down a nemesis from the past, leading to a standoff between Jerome and Gordon. Meanwhile, a magic show at the Gotham Children’s Hospital gala turns into a hostage situation in the all-new Rise of the Villains: The Last Laugh episode of Gotham airing Monday, October 5th on Fox.
While there’s every chance that there will be some sort of twist and Jerome won’t end up being The Joker, Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller has talked a lot in the past about making the series appeal to fans of The Dark Knight Trilogy, so it’s easy to understand why we’re getting a Ledger impression of sorts from this character (even though the show isn’t in any way linked to those movies canonically).
