James Gunn is sharing the much-beloved opening credits sequence to his DC show Peacemaker due to popular demand among fans.
The HBO Max series, a spinoff of his excellent film The Suicide Squad released last year, is already receiving a lot of praise from fans and critics. The praise isn’t just coming from armchair critics on Twitter, either, although there’s plenty of that to go around. The show also boasts an incredible 94% on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, as of press time.
But one thing fans and even comedian Patton Oswalt are praising in particular are the opening credits of the show, which features the entire cast engaging in Charissa Barton’s tight dance choreography in a hilariously deadpan fashion and set to a very rockin’ anthem.
Gunn explained that “Due to incredibly popular request,” he decided to post the video of the opening title sequence on Twitter.
While the tune that the Peacemaker cast members dance to in the opening credits sounds like it’s ripped straight from the 1980s, it is actually from 2010. The song is called “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” by the Norwegian glam metal band Wig Wam from their third studio album, the appropriately titled Non Stop Rock’n Roll. You can even listen to the song on the official Peacemaker playlist on Spotify, which Gunn also shared.
The dance number in the opening credits is led by Peacemaker star John Cena, who plays the titular antihero. The show also stars Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, and Jennifer Holland, all of whom also get into the groove in the opening credits.
