James Gunn might be the co-CEO of DC Studios, but he’s busying himself promoting the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which hits Disney Plus this coming Friday.
As the filmmaker has made abundantly clear on a number of occasions, he’s got one foot firmly in both camps until Vol. 3 lands in theaters next May, after which he’ll be focusing all of his energies on righting the shaky ship that’s been DC’s film and television output for the last few years.
Of course, the internet being what it is, Gunn can’t say or do anything on social media without things almost instantly devolving into Marvel vs. DC tribalism, even though he’s reminded people that there’s a way to enjoy both. And yet, the freshly-minted executive didn’t hold back when his feed was hijacked by a Legends of Tomorrow supporter demanding he save the beloved series.
Like he says, spamming the boss’ Twitter feed is probably one of the least likely methods to accomplish one’s goal of ensuring Legends of Tomorrow isn’t doomed, especially when the conversation was focused on matters that have precisely nothing to do with DC at large.
Gunn better get used to it, though, because being so Twitter-happy while tackling the two biggest comic book titans in the industry is only going to lead to an increase in hot takes, spicy opinions, and utter nonsense until he finally extricates himself from the MCU when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is released. Until then, we wish him the best of luck.
