The second season of Yellowjackets has officially come to an end, and if you listen closely, you can hear the frantic scratching of pens as fans of the Emmy-nominated thriller series write up lawsuits for the emotional damage caused by that Category Five whirlwind of an ending from the season finale.

Indeed, the Yellowjackets fandom may be desensitized to cannibalism at this point, but even if they were given notice ahead of time, no amount of mental preparation could have made Natalie’s death any easier to swallow; having accidentally died at the hands of a murderous Misty, whose poison-packed syringe wound up piercing Natalie instead of her intended target Lisa, Natalie’s passing held a uniquely congested weight like no other.

And if you thought watching that scene was brutal, be thankful you weren’t in front of the camera for it. In a recent ET Online interview, Christina Ricci, the talent behind Misty and who therefore served as the villain in this gut-punch of an exchange, called the process of shooting the ending “shocking” and “emotional” to the point that the cast struggled to keep the intensity of it all confined to their acting.

“It got really intense, wild, really breathtaking. And when it came to filming those final scenes, it was so devastatingly emotional for us to shoot.”

Being a film or television star may seem like a wondrous goal to aspire towards, but the work that the best of the best put in doesn’t come without blood, sweat, and a whole lot of tears, and the Yellowjackets cast, with all the tribulations that come with filming a series like this, are prime proof of that.

Yellowjackets is available to stream on Max.
