After being ordered to series by HBO Max back in February, it looks like it’s full steam ahead for It prequel Welcome to Derry, with the first four cast members for the upcoming television series confirmed.
Taylor Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Babylon), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Oppenhemier) have all signed on to star in the series preceding the events of Stephen King’s It novel, and its big screen adaptation from 2017, according to Variety.
The upcoming series, tentatively titled Welcome to Derry, comes from the directorial mind of the latest It adaptations, Andrés Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti (who produced the films), and Jason Fuchs – who will serve as co-showrunner for Welcome to Derry alongside Brad Caleb Cane.
While plot details for Welcome to Derry remain extremely scarce, we’re hoping we’ll get to learn more about the origins of Pennywise the Clown – where he came from, when he started terrorizing the town, and why, as well as learning more about the true nature of its being.
The star who terrified audiences around the world with his take on Pennywise, Bill Skarsgård, recently addressed whether he’ll be returning to haunt our nightmares once more in the upcoming series.
Expanding on the mythos established by Stephen King may seem like a bit of a delicate endeavor, but the acclaimed horror author himself has given the series his tick of approval, so hopefully we’re in for a treat. As of right now, there are no concrete details as to when Welcome to Derry will be arriving on our television screens.
