“I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day. But I was fooling myself. Darkness only responds to darkness.”
That’s Matt Murdock there, verbalizing his thoughts on justice, Hell’s Kitchen and the letter of the law while housed up in a confessional booth. So far, so familiar, but what makes this Daredevil snippet so special is the fact that it’s attached to Iron Fist season 2, and is designed to herald the return of Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear.
He’s been completely MIA since The Defenders finale, as evidenced by yesterday’s teasing promo, but the fact that Marvel and Netflix have attached the first-look promo of Daredevil season 3 to the tail-end of Iron Fist season 2 tells us that it shouldn’t be much longer before the one true protector of Hell’s Kitchen is back on the streets, fighting for what he believes in – even if it means he’d rather die as the devil than live as Matt Murdock.
How very ominous…
It’s unclear if this scene has been lifted from Daredevil‘s third season, or if it’s merely designed to be a standalone promo for the fourth and final Marvel/Netflix installment of 2018 – after Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the aforementioned Iron Fist.
One thing’s for sure, though: Matt Murdock is still every bit as downcast and despondent as he was before, and the fact that Marvel plans to adapt Frank Miller’s classic “Born Again” comic tells us that, for the Man Without Fear, things are only going to get worse before they get better.
“I’d rather die as the devil, than live as Matt Murdock.” Season 3 of Marvel’s Daredevil is all set to reach Netflix before the year’s end, while Iron Fist‘s truncated second season (our review) is available to stream from today.
