When it comes to their exclusive television content, DC Universe has had a home run of a year. The live-action adaptations of Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing have both generated serious positive buzz, practically justifying a subscription to the streaming service on their own. Now it looks like it’s Harley Quinn’s turn up to bat… literally.
Producer Patrick Schumacker has shared a new look at the Harley Quinn animated series. Seen below, the image is a close up of Harley’s face as she draws a baseball bat in anticipation of another violent swing. Splattered in blood across her arm reads, “Fall 2019,” the expected release date of the show’s first episode.
First off, it’s a pretty funny gag to use an image of a baseball bat to tease one of Batman’s most iconic foes. Secondly, its depiction of violence is a good sign that the Harley Quinn cartoon won’t shy away from more adult-oriented affairs. We know the series will follow Harley as she attempts to become a member of the Legion of Doom following a break-up with Mista J, and this colorful look at our anti-heroine is certainly promising.
Kaley Cuoco is set to voice the titular character in the show, which will also feature Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho, Alan Tudyk as the Joker, Christopher Meloni as James Gordon and Diedrich Bader as Batman. Other guest voices in the series include Wanda Sykes, Giancarlo Esposito, Ron Funches, J.B. Smoove, and Jim Rash in undisclosed roles.
Hopefully, the show can hold us over until Margot Robbie’s live-action take on Harley Quinn pops up in next year’s Bird of Prey. I guess we’ll find out when it premieres in the Fall.
