Last night saw two widely acclaimed HBO series come to their dramatic conclusions. While most of the raving on social media may be attributed to Succession, audiences who stayed up past their bedtime for the Barry finale were absolutely vindicated by the dark comedy’s final moments.
One such fan was none other than Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro, who shared nothing but the highest of praise for the grim and witty series, except for one particular detail – his own cameo back in episode 3 of season 4:
It’s no secret that there’re many creatives across the entertainment industry who are put off by watching their own works and performances, and it seems that this is also the case for del Toro. For what it’s worth, we thought he was great.
To quickly recap, for those that may have missed it on their first pass, del Toro appears in one scene early on in season 4 (before the time-jump) as a crime boss aptly named – Toro. He debriefs with NoHo Hank and Cristobal following a delivery of sand, and the trio also discuss their plans to murder Barry. Somehow, the conversation quickly devolves into a quippy conversation about podcasts versus TikToks – because Barry.
Guillermo del Toro is certainly not the only star of the series to share a post Barry finale debrief. Shortly after the final episode aired, Anthony Carrigan shared his thoughts on NoHo Hank’s final scene, and Henry Winkler also dished about the moment he found out about Barry and Cousineau’s ultimate fate.
All four seasons of Barry are now available to relive and binge on Max.
