After over a decade of watching Grant Gustin play the Scarlet Speedster, the actor has packed up his things as the series finale for CW’s The Flash is just a week away.
A video by Entertainment Weekley showed Gustin packing up his things in a box with the label “Flash,” where he packs away the costume and the Star Industries mug, throws away a mask, and keeps a small ring in his pocket. The video was pretty emotional as it reminded viewers that this is not only an end of an era, but also the end of the Arrowverse as a whole.
This video got plenty of people in tears. And who wouldn’t be since it’s an end of an era? EW had to spend the extra time cheering up crying fans through the use of memes and wholesome comments. But there is only so much that one social media manager could do, especially when the show captured the hearts of millions of fans.
If you’re wondering why Gustin only kept the ring and left the rest of his stuff behind in the video, that is because this was in reference to an interview he did with the publication. Gustin told EW that he was allowed to keep the ring right after production for the series finale wrapped up. According to him, the ring doesn’t really fit him but he wants to “keep a piece of Barry Allen with him forever.”
“I knew I was going to keep one thing, but I didn’t know that it was going to be the ring. Right as we were finishing, I was like, ‘This is going to stay in my pocket.’ Now it’s in a drawer at home with all of my important jewelry. I put it on, actually, the other day.” It doesn’t matter to him that the ring doesn’t actually fit — “I have fat knuckles and skinny fingers,” he admits with a laugh — he just wanted to keep a piece of Barry Allen with him forever.
Of course, we all knew this moment was coming, but it still hurts, nonetheless. Not too long ago, Gustin shared a video of his own to his social channels, in which he hung up his iconic red costume one last time.
The Flash first aired on CW back on October 7, 2014. And since then, it lasted for nine seasons and was part of multiple crossover events with other Arrowverse titles like Arrow and Supergirl. The series finale, titled “A New World, Part Four” will be released on May 24, 2023.
