It may be hard to believe, but the five-year journey that’s been Gotham will come to an end in a matter of days. This may be only half the length of Smallville‘s duration, sure, but a run this long is far from shabby. In that time frame, we saw Jim Gordon and the young Bruce Wayne embark on some memorable adventures, not to mention meeting terrific renditions of the Penguin, Riddler, Professor Pyg, Joker and many other villains.
Speaking of which, it’s the Joker who I’d like to discuss at the moment. As you’re likely aware, this show’s presented multiple takes on the Clown Prince of Crime, effectively beating the long-awaited Batman: Three Jokers comic to the punch (DC has yet to even solicit the first in a three-issue limited series).
First, there was Jerome Valeksa, who then gave way to his twin brother, Jeremiah. Then, it was Jeremiah who fell into a vat of acid at Ace Chemicals and is now re-emerging in the series finale a decade after being in a catatonic state. From what we’ve been able to gather, Cameron Monaghan’s final evolution will likely serve as Gotham‘s definitive Joker. Given that, it’s no surprise he be inserted into the latest promo video embedded above.
As you can see, a fair amount of the footage was previously found in the first trailer to circulate last Thursday night following “They Did What?,” which capped off the “No Man’s Land” story arc. This time, though, we’re given some alternate shots of the Ace of Knaves as he begins terrorizing the city just in time for a certain Dark Knight to put him in his place.
