As has been teased for a while now, the finale will be titled “No Man’s Land” and is set to loosely adapt the cataclysmic comic book storyline of the same name, as Jeremiah Valeska, the proto-Joker, unleashes his plans to bring Gotham City to its knees. The first promo for the episode – seen above – is quite short, but gives us a flavor of the action-packed climax to the season.

It follows on from the shock ending of the penultimate outing, which saw Jeremiah shoot Selina Kyle in front of Bruce Wayne’s eyes, as it features Selina being taken to hospital in critical condition. It seems this might be the moment he truly becomes the hero Gotham needs right now, as he goes on to tell Alfred that he’s making the city’s fate his responsibility. Could that be a familiar pointy-eared cowl we see on the horizon?

Another question fans may have is whether or not this season finale may also be the series finale. Gotham has been on the bubble of renewal for the past couple of years and at present, we haven’t heard any official word on whether it’ll get a fifth run. Thankfully, FOX chairman Gary Newman has expressed hope that the Batman prequel earns at least one more outing. “I feel like Gotham should have a place in our schedule,” he said earlier this year.

Still, plans might have changed since that statement was made. In any case, Gotham looks to be pulling out all the stops for what could be its final episode. Though there are exciting, bold plans already in the works for the potential fifth season, if this really does turn out to be the end, then at least the series will go out with a very literal bang.
