While the bulk of our favorite DC TV shows were renewed some time ago, we’ve been on pins and needles waiting to learn the fate of the rest of the pack, namely Gotham and iZombie. So, aside from recently getting word that The CW has ordered Black Lightning to series, we’re pleased to say that both shows will be coming back for another round.
First, let’s talk about Gotham, which TV Line has been able to confirm as being renewed for its fourth season. As you may know, the Batman prequel series was the one we were most concerned about when it comes to the DC TV lot because not only have ratings been on the decline as of late, but also due to the fact that this particular show had been renewed in January in previous years. So, you can understand why some of us were starting to sweat a little.
As for how many episodes the network has ordered, well, that remains a mystery for the moment. Quite frankly, it wouldn’t surprise us if season 4 were to consist of a 13 or 16-episode order or if Fox were to change the night and/or timeslot. Such things are expected of shows that are renewed at the last minute, yet have a decline in viewership. Thus, don’t be shocked if this ends up getting the Friday night treatment.
Meanwhile, over at The CW, iZombie‘s renewal (also via TV Line) comes as less of a surprise knowing that a cult following has kept the series going strong. This situation differs from the one above insofar that this renewal comes after only six episodes have aired for the horror/drama/comedy, so it stands to reason that the network just wanted assurance that folks were still sticking around. And, like Gotham, it remains unclear how great the episode order for next year will be, but we’re fully expecting another 13-episode run to debut at the midseason mark.
Let it be known that both networks are set to deliver their fall upfronts next week, so we’ll keep you posted if any further information regarding Gotham and iZombie surfaces.
