Gotham Debuts First Promo For “Smile Like You Mean It” As Producer Teases A Harley Quinn Cameo

Fox has premiered the first promo for Gotham's "Smile Like You Mean It," while producer John Stephens has teased a potential Harley Quinn cameo.

Following its holiday hiatus, Gotham returned to the airwaves in style yesterday evening thanks to the midseason premiere of “Mad City: Ghosts.”

In many ways, the episode laid the groundwork for the remainder of season 3, as Mayor Oswald Cobblepot’s reign begins to falter under pressure from Ed Nygma. But without question, it was the long-anticipated return of Jerome Valeska that stole the headlines. Resurrecting the show’s proto-Joker has been long on the cards, but it appears as though Gotham‘s creative team are also leaving the door open for a Harley Quinn cameo appearance further down the line – likely during the season 3 finale.

During an interview with TV Guide, producer John Stephens teased that “we might see [Quinn] in Episode 22,” which will seemingly tee up season 4’s narrative arc. All of this is yet to be confirmed, so don’t go banking on a Harley Quinn cameo in Gotham season 3 just yet. Even still, in anticipation of this week’s “Mad City: Smile Like You Mean It,” Fox has premiered the episode’s first promo, which you can find below.

On the run from Gordon and Bullock, Dwight (guest star David Dastmalchian) tries to ‎revive Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan) and, in turn, activates his acolytes around Gotham City. Meanwhile, Selina’s mom’s (guest star Ivana Milicevic) intentions in Gotham are revealed, and the power play between Penguin and Nygma escalates as Barbara’s plans are set in place.

Headed up by Ben McKenzie as the great Detective James Gordon, Gotham season 3 also stars Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin and Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, who can be seen previewing next week’s episode via the promo below.

Gotham‘s third season will continue with the premiere of “Mad City: Smile Like You Mean It” on Monday, January 23 at 8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT.
