‘Goosebumps’ creator heaps praise on ‘Peacemaker’

Gunn's horror-comedy 'Slither' definitely seems like it would fit right in among the volumes of Stine’s spooky 'Goosebumps' tales.

Horror legend R.L. Stine, author of the popular Goosebumps book series, is singing the praises of the DC series Peacemaker, much to the delight of James Gunn.

The author, who could arguably be considered the Stephen King of young adult novels, took to Twitter Friday to write, “PEACEMAKER on HBO Max is a riot. Hilarious.”

Unsurprisingly, he also joined the ranks of many fans and comedian Patton Oswalt to praise the hilariously deadpan opening dance number of the show, saying it is “maybe the best ever opening of a superhero series!”

The praise blew the mind of showrunner Gunn, whose first-ever directed movie, the horror-comedy Slither, definitely seems like it would fit right in among the volumes of Stine’s spooky Goosebumps tales.

“Whoa. Insane. Thanks!!!” Gunn replied to the author.

Peacemaker is the spinoff of Gunn’s excellent film from last year, The Suicide Squad. It follows the continued adventures of John Cena’s Christopher Smith, AKA Peacemaker, a character who isn’t afraid to gun down any man, woman, or child to achieve his single-minded mission of bringing “peace” to the world.

The series picks up where we left the character off at the end of The Suicide Squad, hospitalized from the aftermath of the cataclysmic Project Starfish on the island of Corto Maltese. Once again recruited by Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, Peacemaker’s next Task Force X mission is dubbed Project Butterfly.

Catch the first three episodes of Peacemaker on HBO Max now, with subsequent episodes releasing each week on Thursdays.
