The series clearly depicts the pair, who’ve been friends for thousands of years despite being on opposite sides, as deeply caring for the other, but it’s unclear whether they’re romantically interested in one another. This is something fans have been debating and one decided to get a definitive answer from the highest authority – showrunner Neil Gaiman, who also co-wrote the book it’s based on with Terry Pratchett.

When asked if Aziraphale and Crowley were gay, Gaiman clarified that the meaning of the term doesn’t apply to them as they aren’t two human men.

It’s a good point Gaiman makes there, and he certainly answered the question he was asked. However, some weren’t satisfied that he’d solved the question we actually want to know the answer to. As such, another person asked him to clarify if the duo love each other, to which Gaiman replied: “Absolutely.”

Again, Gaiman’s comment doesn’t make it explicit whether Aziraphale and Crowley have romantic feelings for each other or not, but it’s clear he intended Good Omens to be a love story between the pair all the same. That being said, it looks like the show might have to follow on from Sherlock with fans making up their own minds about how the characters feel about each other. If angels and demons can even feel that way.
