Although Arrow has been host to its share of memorable guest stars over the years, it seems like the best way to get the fans hyped in advance is to cast genre royalty. Already, we’ve seen the likes of John Barrowman (Torchwood) and Manu Bennett (Spartacus) enjoy vacations to Star City, with the latest addition to the club bringing a smile to my face.
Believe it or not, none other than Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) is set to show up in episode 7×19, which has been titled “Spartan.” As one would expect, this’ll be an installment focusing heavily on John Diggle, and we hope to see him suiting up once again.
For some reason, the name of Hudson’s character hasn’t been divulged, but Deadline confirms that he “portrays a Four Star General of the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) that Diggle (David Ramsey) is forced to reconnect with for a Team Arrow mission despite unresolved tension from their past.”
Of course, theories will run rampant because viewers could no doubt already be theorizing that he’s a character from DC Comics canon. If not, you have to admit that it’s still pretty cool having him around nevertheless.
In fact, this isn’t the first time that Hudson’s been welcomed into the DC family. Previously, he’d voiced Lucius Fox in the animated film Batman: Bad Blood. If you haven’t seen that, I highly recommend doing so because not only do you get to see Dick Grayson suit up as the Dark Knight for a time, but it also featured the animated debuts of Kate Kane as Batwoman and Luke Fox as Batwing. Plus, Batgirl rocks her Burnside-era duds in a cameo near the end.
Arrow airs on Monday nights on The CW, with “Spartan” likely set to debut sometime in April.
