The last few weeks have been filled with highs and lows for Game of Thrones fans. Earlier this month, the series finale for HBO’s fantasy drama was released, and while some are satisfied with how creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrapped things up, plenty of longtime viewers were left disappointed with how the ending panned out. In a show which featured dozens of characters and plotlines, it’s not entirely surprising that some long-hanging stories wouldn’t get the conclusions they deserve, but this realization doesn’t make the sting any more palatable.
For better or worse, HBO made the much-maligned decision to shorten its final two seasons, which brought the total episode count down to 13 from 20. It’s not entirely sure what the reasoning behind this was, but some fans speculate that Benioff and Weiss were eager to end the show as quickly as possible in order to focus on their Star Wars trilogy.
While plenty of longtime viewers are not happy with how things panned out, it seems one of Game of Thrones‘ lead actors hasn’t been doing so hot himself. As we previously reported, Kit Harington, who portrayed Jon Snow, recently checked into rehab. Over the past few days, additional details came to light and now, thanks to ComicBook.com, we have some more concrete information.
While the specifics of the story changed (with reports indicating that he was in a “wellness center” as opposed to rehab), it seems Harington checked himself in as he was “living a very unhealthy lifestyle.” As Us Weekly noted, Kit’s decision was made for the sake of his wife, Rose Leslie (who also starred on Game of Thrones as Ygritte).
“Kit went to treatment for Rose,” an unnamed source told Us Weekly. “He was living a very unhealthy lifestyle. He was stressed all the time and using unhealthy coping tools.”
As Page Six detailed earlier this week, Harington reportedly checked himself into a mental health retreat in Connecticut back on May 19th, as the ending of the show seemed to hit him rather hard.
“The British actor has been undergoing psychological coaching, practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to combat stress and deal with negative emotions at the facility, which costs over $120,000 a month,” the report says. “His actress wife Rose Leslie, 32, whom he met on the set of Game of Thrones and played Jon Snow’s Wildling companion Ygritte, is being ‘extremely supportive,’ we’re told.”
With the show now officially over, we are certainly hopeful that Kit Harington is able to address his mental well-being in a positive way, and all of us here at We Got This Covered wish the Game of Thrones star a speedy recovery.
