Looks Like Game Of Thrones Will Finally Deliver Cleganebowl After All

Sandor Clegane is marching south, and it's looking increasingly likely that Game of Thrones season 8 will deliver Cleganebowel, after all.

“The Last of the Starks” delivered a whole helping of drama for Game of Thrones viewers.

Battles were fought, arguments were waged, and Brienne of Tarth lost her virginity – to Jaime Lannister, no less, doing good on all that sexual tension that has been simmering ever since season 3. But there’s one throwaway line that has sparked great excitement across the four corners of the realm (read: Internet), and it involves the Hound himself, Sandor Clegane, who admitted to Arya Stark that he was marching to King’s Landing to tend to some unfinished business.

Turns out that business may well be family related, after all, as just last season the Hound encountered his estranged sibling Gregor Clegane – or, in reality, the monster he had become under Cersei Lannister. Put simply, Sandor is likely referring to a royal rumble between the two giants, which has been long anticipated by Game of Thrones viewers.

Long-time Thrones fans will no doubt remember the moment when the two brothers clashed during season 1, at which point the Mountain was actually played by a different actor entirely. But ever since Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson took on the role, and slaughtered the Red Viper with his bare hands, there’s been rampant speculation that Thrones will finally close the book on that sibling spat.

Doing so will likely require one last swordfight on the grounds of King’s Landing, given the capital looks set to host the Last War, whether Daenerys Targaryen likes it or not. The Queen of Dragons (Dragon?) was enraged by Cersei’s latest actions, so we fully expect a major showdown to occur during this weekend’s installment – regardless of whether Cleganebowl arrives this week or next.

The penultimate episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones airs Sunday, May 12th. Don’t. Miss. It.
