January is looking to be one of the coldest months we’ve seen in the United States in a long while, but there’s no real reason to go outside anyway now that FX and FXX has unveiled premiere dates for a host of their original series, including modern Western Justified, animated spy comedy Archer and Cold War espionage drama The Americans. Also on the cards for January are the return of enduring comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the series premiere of FXX’s comedy Man Seeking Woman.
Up first is Archer, which will return for its sixth season on January 8th, at 10 p.m. on FX. The network’s #1 rated comedy series, Archer revolves around an international spy agency and the lives of its employees. Though the spies go on missions and occasionally topple an enemy government, they devote the lion’s share of their time to ridiculing, undermining and screwing over their co-workers. The sixth season premiere will see the show drop the name ISIS for its spy agency in light of the acronym being used to identify a Middle Eastern terrorist group.
The tenth season of comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will premiere January 14th, at 10 p.m on FXX. According to the network, this season finds “the gang tackl[ing] even bigger challenges [than last season] like beating Wade Boggs’ cross-country flight drinking record, getting their old friend Psycho Pete back to form, competing on a game show and conquering the world of online dating.”
It’s Always Sunny will be immediately followed by the series premiere of FXX’s Man Seeking Woman at 10:30p.m. The press release describes the show as follows:
A sweet and surreal look at the life-and-death stakes of dating, Man Seeking Woman follows naïve twenty-something “Josh Greenberg” (Jay Baruchel, How to Train Your Dragon) on his unrelenting quest for love. Josh soldiers through one-night stands, painful break-ups, a blind date with a troll, time travel, sex aliens, many deaths and a Japanese penis monster named Tanaka on his fantastical journey to find love. Starring alongside Baruchel are Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show) as “Mike,” Josh’s confident and daring best friend; Britt Lower (Unforgettable) as “Liz,” Josh’s intimidating older sister; and Maya Erskine (Betas) as “Maggie,” the ex-girlfriend Josh can never quite forget.
