Following the news that both Jamie Chung and Stephen Moyer have signed on to lead the cast of Fox’s new X-Men family drama, Deadline is now reporting that Sean Teale (Skins, Reign, Incorporated) has also joined the growing ensemble as a mutant character named Marcos Diaz, AKA Eclipse.
Whereas the previous child of the atom to be added to the cast (Chung’s Blink) is an established Marvel Comics hero, this guy has been created just for the show and is described as “a natural rebel compelled by circumstances to cooperate with others. He’s a passionate and strong-willed fighter who sometimes lets his emotions overrule reason.” Eclipse’s powers include the ability to absorb and manipulate photons, which actually sounds quite similar to Roberto Da Costa/Sunspot’s gift. It’s not likely that he’ll turn out to be that character, however, as Sunspot is expected to appear in Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie.
The series, which will be helmed by X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer and written by Matt Nix, is said to focus on a human couple (Moyer will play the father) who discover their children are mutants and take them on the road to escape the clutches of a shadowy government agency. Along the way, they hook up with an underground network of mutants, which will presumably include Blink and Eclipse.
Fox’s still untitled X-Men show doesn’t have a premiere date just yet, but we’ll keep you posted on that as well as any other related developments as they arise.
