Fox is aggressively growing their X-Men cinematic universe, and after the massive success of films like Logan and Deadpool, it’s easy to see why. With projects such as New Mutants, X-Force, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Deadpool 2 all cramming up the pipeline, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to for fans of the franchise, but it’s not only on the big screen that the mutants are popping up.
The studio’s been making the push into television as well, and after premiering the excellent Legion earlier this year, they’re now looking to bring us yet another X-Men show in the form of The Gifted. How exactly it’ll tie into the films is still unclear, but there is expected to be some kind of connection and from what we understand, the series centres on a suburban couple (Amy Acker, Stephen Moyer) who discover that their children possess mutant abilities. Forced to hit the road in fear of a hostile governmental force, The Gifted will see our nuclear family buddy up with an underground network of mutants, who cobble together as a means to survive.
With the show only recently entering production, we haven’t seen too much from it just yet, but following on from that quick teaser last week, today brings with it a very generous full-length trailer, introducing us to this world and these characters and painting a pretty exciting picture of what’s to come. At nearly 3 minutes long, there’s a lot to feast on here and though it appears to be a far cry from what we saw with Legion, The Gifted looks pretty fun and could definitely be another small screen hit for Marvel. As of now, we can safely say that we’re hooked and given that both the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants get namedrops here, it’s likely that there will be some intriguing ties between this series and the wider cinematic universe.
In addition to Acker and Moyer, Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White are also on board for the show. For more, be sure to consult the official logline below, courtesy of Fox:
