The Star Wars Celebration panel for The Mandalorian is set to go down this Sunday, and will no doubt bring us plenty of info and probably also a little footage from the franchise’s first live-action TV show.
In the meantime, though, Disney has been showing off its upcoming series to investors and earlier today, a few lucky individuals got a quick sneak peek at what’s in store. Unfortunately, the footage hasn’t made its way online yet – and might not – but The Hollywood Reporter was able to lay eyes on the brief tease and below, you can see what they had to say about it.
The clip shows the back of presumably the Mandalorian in a snowy area. He’s holding something in his hand, and he pockets it and walks forward. He wears armor that’s meant to look like a medieval knight. There are shots of new planets, new races, new species and new starships, but, as Favreau said, “we want it to feel completely connected and familiar.”
While plot details for The Mandalorian remain hard to come by, it’s believed that Pedro Pascal of Narcos and Game of Thrones fame will be the one rocking the helmet, and he’ll be flanked by an all-star cast that also includes the likes of Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and Werner Herzog. Not only that, but Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is thought to be voicing fan favorite IG-88, and will also be getting behind the camera for one of the episodes.
Again, we don’t have much to go on in terms of plot, but rumors have pointed to the titular hero encountering a baby on one of his missions that he refuses to kill. From there, The Mandalorian will apparently focus on their growing relationship as he seeks to keep the child safe and out of harm’s way.
For what it’s worth, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo has also revealed that The Mandalorian has Favreau working “at the forefront of cutting edge tech,” and we’ll hopefully find out just what he means by that later this week, when Star Wars Celebration brings us our first look at the hugely anticipated show.
