Despite obviously not being the first TV series introduced to us by the Arrowverse, The Flash has consistently proven itself as a fan favorite and a ratings success for The CW. With each passing year, the show introduces us to a healthy amount of DC heroes and villains – both well known and obscure – while never shying away from crazy sci-fi action. Really, I’m impressed with what the visual effects team are able to achieve week in and week out.
This time around, it was refreshing to see Barry Allen do battle with someone who wasn’t yet another evil speedster. Cool as the previous big bads were, Clifford DeVoe AKA the Thinker will go down as being a great foil for Team Flash, having taken them to the intellectual limit like never before.
If you have the slightest idea of what I’m talking about, then you’ll want to experience all the twists and turns for yourself when The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season comes home on Blu-ray and DVD on August 28. Being a nice guy, I’m not going to offer any major spoilers, and will instead whet your appetite with this official synopsis:
In Season Four, the mission of Barry Allen, aka The Flash (Grant Gustin), is once more to protect Central City from metahuman threats. First, he’ll have to escape the Speed Force. With Barry trapped, the job of protecting Central City falls to his family – Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin); his fiancée, Iris West (Candice Patton); and Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) – and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs – Dr. Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon/Vibe (Carlos Valdes) and brilliant scientist Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). When a powerful villain threatens to level the city if The Flash doesn’t appear, Cisco risks everything to break Barry out of the Speed Force. But this is only the first move of a life-or-death chess game with Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker (Neil Sandilands), a mastermind who’s always ten steps ahead of Barry, no matter how fast he’s running. Shocking surprises come fast and furious in all 23 action-packed adventures featuring The Fastest Man Alive.
Before moving on, it’s important to note that only the third part in the “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover is included. Thus, if you want to take in the whole experience, you’re going to have to pick up the other upcoming Arrowverse releases on Blu-ray as well.
Regardless of that, some nifty bonus features will be there to keep you company, and here’s the full rundown of what’s to be included:
- The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
- Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
- The Elongated Man
- Flash Time on Amunet Black with Katee, Eric and Sterling
- The Fastest Mind Alive: The Thinker
