Sci-fi content is infamously known for its fluctuating quality, (yes, we’re also talking about Black Mirror‘s latest season) but once in a blue moon, there comes a series or movie that completely surpasses expectations, leaving everyone swooped off their feet. This time, that may just be Netflix‘s upcoming film, Paradise.
Hailing from Germany, Paradise is a sci-fi movie spearheaded by Netflix. Expected to reach the platform this summer, the film had yet to receive a glimpse into its cinematography – until now. The recently released trailer finally showcases the premise of the movie, portraying a not-too-distant dystopian future where individuals can trade or transfer their life expectancy to others. In the end, in this alternative reality, you can even trade your life for money and goods.
Featuring German actors Kostja Ullmann, Iris Berben, and Marlene Tanczik, this upcoming picture serves as clear evidence of Netflix’s intention to diversify its content by expanding beyond U.S.-centric grounds. Earlier this month, the Portuguese series Turn of the Tide (or Rabo de Peixe) soared to the top of the platform’s charts, and just recently, the streaming giant has expressed its desire to incorporate more South Korean series and dramas into its repertoire.
It’s important to note Netflix’s unpredictable nature when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi series, as many have met unfortunate fates despite their quality. Nevertheless, let’s hope that the biotech AEON pharmaceutical company captures the hearts of audiences to secure a following, though considering the platform’s history, a large and loyal audience ultimately means nothing.
Paradise will hit the platform on July 27.
