The Walking Dead fans may still be reeling from a jam-packed SDCC showing, but with an October premiere officially locked, all eyes will soon turn to the season 7 premiere.
To ensure excitement remains cranked up to a fever-pitch, Entertainment Weekly has unveiled its latest cover, placing Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s deranged Negan front and center. Wielding his trusty Lucille – that gnarly baseball bat paraded in front of our heroes during the season 6 finale – Morgan also spoke to the outlet in anticipation of that all-important reveal, and why Negan will spend much of the new season “wreaking havoc.” Yes, the nail-biting tension will stretch far beyond October 23.
“What you’re going to see in the first half of this season is Negan wreaking havoc. And some of your characters that you’ve grown to love are not going to be on the show anymore, and it’s going to end badly for them. It’s going to be a whole new beginning for The Walking Dead. Really, we’ve taken the show and just flipped it upside down. It’s a different show now. It’s going to have a different feeling. You’re going to see your favorite characters in a position that they’ve never been in before, which is super vulnerable and victimized.”
Andrew Lincoln reprises his defining role as Rick Grimes, while season 7 will also feature Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, Josh McDermitt, Ross Marquand, Christian Serratos and Khary Payton (Teen Titans, General Hospital) as the scenery-chewing Ezekiel, replete with Shiva.
The Walking Dead season 7 shuffles onto AMC on October 23.
