While HBO‘s original series material, bar Boardwalk Empire, has been not up to scratch of late, it’s hard not to get excited about the upcoming horse racing drama Luck. The pilot is directed by Michael Mann and written by Deadwood show runner and head writer David Milch. From this trailer you get several snippets from what looks to be the pilot, which has been picked up for a 12 episode season, and it does look marvellous. The trailer features interviews with Mann and Milch who say that it’s more than horse racing, that it looks at the darkness and dodgy dealings behind the whole affair.
As always with HBO, the cast is great. Here it’s headlined by two time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman, and it also stars Nick Nolte, Richard Kind, Kevin Dunn, Dennis Farina, Ian Hart, Kerry Condon among others. It also looks to have the same digital video look of Public Enemies, which looks to suit horse racing more than it did 30’s period gangsters. Something to look out for when it premieres later on in the year.
