Fear the Walking Dead was very much cut off from its parent series for its first three seasons, but that all changed in the season 4 premiere. Lennie James’ Morgan Jones hopped over to become a regular while a couple of The Walking Dead stars dropped by for cameo appearances. This closer connection between the series has only continued with season 5, as Austin Amelio has joined the cast as well, reprising his role as Dwight.
So, which TWD character would Amelio pick to follow him over to Fear? In a BUILD Series talk about the show, the actor suggested that Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon should appear on the spinoff at some point. “Maybe Daryl, yeah,” Amelio said. “It’ll be fun, mix it up a little bit.”
TWD fans will remember that Dwight and Daryl have an antagonistic relationship, going right back to when Dwight tricked him out of his crossbow and motorcycle in season 6. Even after Dwight redeemed himself and defected from Negan and the Saviors, Daryl still didn’t warm to him. In fact, it was Daryl who banished Dwight from Alexandria at the end of season 8. That was the last we saw of him on the parent series, setting up his role on Fear.
After being announced to be hopping over to the show back in January, Austin Amelio is finally about to make his Fear debut with tonight’s third episode of season 5. He’ll remain on as a regular, too.
Titled “Humbug’s Gulch”, the synopsis for the episode teases danger for the gang:
“June and Dorie take shelter to hide from a threat, but a misunderstanding with a desperate survivor leads to trouble. Meanwhile, Alicia and Morgan face a dangerous obstacle.”
Be sure to catch Dwight’s arrival on Fear the Walking Dead tonight (June 16th) on AMC. Daryl, meanwhile, will return when The Walking Dead season 10 lands this fall.
