The casting of Kevin Conroy as an older version of Batman in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” Arrowverse crossover is getting a strong reaction from fans. We’ve already taken a look at why Conroy, who has provided the voice for numerous animated and video game iterations of Batman, is a great selection, and our opinion is shared by many people on social media, who probably can’t believe their luck following the recent news of everyone from Brandon Routh to Tom Welling, and even Burt Ward, featuring in the Arrowverse’s multiverse-spanning event this fall.
Many fans see the Conroy news as the most exciting so far though, with just some of the reactions shown below:

Other fans have brought up the intriguing suggestion of adding Mark Hamill to the mix as a live-action, older version of the Joker. Hamill is already part of the Arrowverse as the Trickster, but could just as well be an alternate-universe take on the villain he’s voiced for decades.

The ambition of the team behind “Crisis on Infinite Earths” has also come in for praise, with the crossover’s producers seemingly working their way through fans’ dream cast list. Sure, Conroy may only appear briefly in the series, but along with the Burt Ward cameo, his involvement shows that DC and The CW are taking every chance to pay tribute to their history.

We’re fascinated to see how “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will present Conroy’s future version of Batman, with theories so far revolving around a Batman Beyond–style take on the character. Alternatively, Conroy could be playing a Bruce Wayne that we’ve yet to see in established continuity.
Hopefully we’ll find out more soon, as the crossover event will begin on December 8th in Supergirl, before continuing on Batwoman and The Flash that month, and finally concluding on Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in January 2020.
