Right now, Secret Invasion is on Disney Plus for the public to watch. It ramps up adult themes and paranoia which have previously only lightly been touched on in some MCU projects, reveals certain characters are not who you thought they were and, in the wake of the premiere, fans are hoping someone who has made many prior appearances still will be their authentic self later.
Warning: Spoilers for the show are below. Read at your own discretion.
At the beginning of the show’s first episode, Martin Freeman’s former C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross is revealed to be a Skrull. People are wondering just when he was replaced and hope he continues on after appearing in the Black Panther films and Captain America: Civil War and, for one user on the Marvel Studios Reddit section discussing the plot twists, the shift is likely very recent.
Elsewhere in the comments, different fans say if Ross had been a Skrull in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, this would have been very risky as given how a certain faction of the alien race is now, they likely would have exacerbated the conflict on screen in the film, and as a result, drawn in more world powers in order to engineer more suffering. Others in the replies feel Ross could be dead, but, as one notes later on, you need not be snuffed out by these sneaky shapeshifters in order for them to duplicate your likeness.
What will ultimately happen next on the Samuel L. Jackson-led series remains to be seen. Its initial run consists of six episodes which are set to run through July 26, and, while some previous parts of the Skrulls’ motivations are not exactly present, fans seem to be happy with the explanation the writers of the project have come up with as opposed to being met with more mediocre effects.
